DR MARK MARITZ
ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON

About Dr. Maritz

Dr. Maritz is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in knee, and foot and ankle surgery. He has gained  fellowship experience both domestically and globally, including at the prestigious  Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital in London. He has served as the Department Head of Orthopaedics at a bustling Durban hospital and led the Foot and Ankle unit at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Orthopaedics.

He has extensive expertise in managing foot and ankle pathology through the newer minimally invasive and keyhole techniques. These techniques allow for an easier recovery for patients, and earlier return to normal activity.

Managing sporting injuries with new keyhole / arthroscopic techniques has gained traction globally, which is his preferential technique. Minimal exposure techniques for athletes optimises outcomes in high demand individuals.

Training and consulting

He continues to teach and train surgeons both locally and internationally on minimally invasive surgery, as well as presenting in courses and congresses both globally and locally. These newer techniques have been shown to have very difficult learning curves, and training is therefore essential for surgeons new to these fields. He does master instructor consultancy on an international platform, training surgeons on arthroscopic and minimally invasive foot and ankle procedures.

The image depicts a medical setting where two surgeons, dressed in blue scrubs, and white masks, are immersed in a surgical procedure. One surgeon is located on the left side of the image while the other one is on the right. Both surgeons are standing around an operating table with a patient lying on it. The atmosphere radiates concentration and adherence to strict medical protocols. Additionally, the scene displays two monitors in the background, showing relevant medical information, thereby suggesting the use of advanced technology in the ongoing surgery.
